The animated film Mufasa: The Lion King and Sonic 3 kept US box office takings high over the long Christmas weekend, with Nosferatu certainly not out of place. As expected, the Christmas week for the US Box Office brought a lot of big bucks to the coffers of exhibitors. According to data reported online by Deadline, in fact, from December 20 to 26 the total takings were worth a whopping 263 million dollars, down only 6% compared to the same period in 2023 (December 22-28). But let's go into detail about the weekend's takings.
In the classic three-day weekend (December 27-29), the first position at the US Box Office went to Sonic 3 with a collection of 38 million dollars, and a total of 137.55 million, while Mufasa: The Lion King almost reached the top with 37 million dollars and a total of 113.48 million. However, evaluating the long Christmas weekend (December 25-29), the situation changes slightly, with Musafa leading the ranking with 63.7 million through the excellent two-day combination (December 25-26) compared to its competitor.
Nosferatu offered a perfect Christmas counter-proposal taking home 21.15 million dollars in the classic weekend, and 40.3 million in the five days; statistics in hand it is the fourth-highest opening for a film branded by Focus Features. The top five at the US Box Office were then completed by the usual suspects Wicked and Moana 2, respectively fourth with 19.45 million dollars (total of 424.23 million) and fifth with 18.2 million dollars (total of 394.6 million). The first reached, among other things, 31.5 million in five days, while the second was 28.3 million.
Finally, A Complete Unknown debuted over the weekend, grossing 11.6 million dollars in the classic three days, and 23.17 million in five days, among the best ever for Searchlight since the merger with Disney in 2019.
