Between deaths, very dangerous games, and big twists, the finale of Squid Game 2 has raised the bar of tension for all fans of the Korean series. Maybe, however, there is something that you missed: a mid-credits scene, or halfway through the credits, which could have escaped those who turned off the TV too quickly. In reality, as the director of the series revealed, it is an important clue for what awaits us in the next (and final) season…
WARNING: SPOILERS FOR SQUID GAME!
As the credits roll, a bonus scene suddenly appears in which we see three players from behind: number 096, number 353, and number 100 (the latter is Im Jeong-dae, the old man who at the beginning of the games revealed that he was ten billion won in debt). The three enter a new playing field, where they come face to face with Young-hee, the giant doll from One, Two, Three… Star! There is also a new entry: a doll similar to her, but depicting a boy with a green hat and a striped shirt. The scene ends with a light that changes from red to green, signifying the start of a new game (in English, One, Two, Three… Star! is called Red Light, Green Light).
The doll depicting the child had already been anticipated by the director of Squid Game 2 in 2022 when he introduced him as Cheol-su, Young-hee's boyfriend. These two characters are based on two children who appeared in textbooks for Korean elementary school students in the 1970s and 1980s. Cheol-su, according to the creator, will be the protagonist of one of the most deadly games in the third season: "It's a new giant doll that we will show in the next season. And it's also a little hint of the most exciting game that we will show you.
Even if we can't reveal it yet, I hope all the fans are curious about Cheol-su and his game," Hwang Dong-hyuk told Entertainment Weekly. This statement also lets us know that, despite what happened in the finale of Squid Game 2, the games will continue. After all, the competition was still halfway and there were at least fifty players intent on completing it and winning the coveted prize pool... It remains to be seen, however, what role the protagonist Seong Gi-hun will play. What do you think? And what do you expect from the next season?
