Henry Cavill, who played Superman in DC movies such as Man of Steel (2013), has announced that the production of the Warhammer 40,000 drama has finally begun two years after it was announced. Cavill reported on his SNS. Warhammer 40,000, created by the British Games Workshop, is a board game in which players play with miniatures. Set in the distant future, humanity is fighting against hostile forces such as aliens, monsters, and demons for their survival. Since the first edition was released in 1987, it has been developed in various ways, including novels, card games, animation, video games, and smartphone games.
The production of the drama version was announced in 2022, and Cavill was to star and executive produce. Progress had stalled since then, but Cavill reported the official start of the project on Instagram. He shared the progress of the project with a photo of him revisiting the shop where he first bought his Warhammer figures over 30 years ago. "To celebrate the news about Warhammer, I decided to make a pilgrimage to the Little Shop in my hometown of Jersey, where I bought my Warhammer figures over 30 years ago! Together with my amazing team and the great people at Games Workshop, we've been analyzing the approach to the vastness and grandeur of the Warhammer world in the concept room.
Together, we've sifted through a huge number of amazing characters and pored over old books and texts. With that help, and with the approval from the top brass at Amazon and Games Workshop, we've arrived at a great place to start our universe. We're keeping the starting point a secret for now, but keep an eye on this space (Instagram). There will be more to come!" The "approval from the top brass at Amazon and Games Workshop" that Cavill mentioned is the new deal Games Workshop has signed with Amazon. Games Workshop reported on its official website that it had agreed to creative guidelines with Amazon Content Services LLC to adapt the world of Warhammer 40,000 into a film and TV series, and had reached a final agreement with related merchandising rights.
Cavill appears to have visited the shop where he first purchased his Warhammer figure to celebrate the start of production. Games Workshop also states on its website that "the film and TV series production process can take several years." It may be a while before the drama version starts streaming on Amazon Prime Video, but let's wait for Cavill's follow-up news.
