Notoriously, many fans hope for the great return of Game of Thrones with a ninth season that, although it would eventually arrive years after the controversial finale of season eight, could correct the shot, modify and transform the outcome of all those payoffs, or the definitive resolutions and closures of a whole series of narrative lines ready to unleash the disappointment, anger, and resentment of viewers. Let us remember that, with a real petition (which had no precedent in the recent history of contemporary seriality) a short distance from the final episode of Game of Thrones, a gigantic movement of opinion started on the web that loudly asked to cancel, rewrite or in any case correct the long-awaited final season. And today, we analyze one of those that according to fans are glaring plot holes, in particular regarding the character of Sansa Stark (played by Sophie Tuner) and her unexpected ascension to the Throne that belonged to her father Ned as Queen of the North.

According to the most attentive fans of Game of Thrones, in fact, the choice of Sansa as Queen of the North only makes sense in terms of the personal narrative arc of the eldest daughter of House Stark, representing her definitive and grandiose redemption after the great number of misfortunes, violence and abuses that have hit her since the first season. Freed from the influence of the treacherous Littlefinger, reunited with her sister Arya, but above all visibly reborn after the sexual abuse suffered by her husband Ramsay Bolton, Sansa Stark had by now demonstrated all the qualities to become Queen, even though the election of a woman did not appear to be a common occurrence in the northernmost region of Westeros.

In this sense, there are notable inconsistencies concerning the plot and the intrigue of the eight seasons of the series, which undermine the beauty of the image of Sophie Turner showing off a smile worthy of the Mona Lisa at the end of Game of Thrones. In fact, her choice as Queen presumes that the North has by now declared its Independence, a historical and revolutionary fact that certainly would not have been accepted in silence either by the Iron Islands or by the leaders of Dorne. If we think about the personality and temperament of Yara Greyjoy, Tyrion's sister played by Gemma Whelan, it is difficult to believe that she would have accepted the choice without also claiming for herself and the Iron Islands the same Independence.

And if according to fans Yara could have reacted even with disdain and anger to Sansa's proclamation as Queen of a North now completely independent from the others, the same goes for the green and lush Dorne. Many have in fact pointed out that in the novels written by George R.R. Martin, the first inspiration for the HBO series, Dorne did not accept to be part of the Seven Kingdoms until 190 years after the others, long resisting the attacks and political pressure of Aegon the Conqueror, leader of House Targaryen. So, even if many would have gladly recognized the election of a King or Queen of the North, respecting her anyway like her predecessors, many also think that Sansa's choice should and could have triggered strong reactions, triggering a dangerous domino effect among the rulers of the Seven Kingdoms, ready at that point to claim the same Independence for themselves even at the cost of general chaos.
