HBO has officially renewed Dune: Prophecy for a second season! Showrunner Alison Schapker announced during a press conference. The renewal comes just days before the show’s first season finale, which premieres December 22 on HBO and Sky. According to HBO, the first episode of Dune: Prophecy has attracted 15 million viewers worldwide since its premiere on November 17. “We are so thrilled and grateful for their support, for our partners at Legendary, and most of all, for the fact that we get to continue working with these incredible people in front of and behind the camera and to continue telling this story,” Schapker said.

Dune: Prophecy is set 10,000 years before the events of the Dune film directed by Denis Villeneuve and tells the story of two Harkonnen sisters, played by Emily Watson and Olivia Williams. The protagonists find themselves fighting against dark forces that threaten the future of humanity and laying the foundations of the legendary sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit. The series is inspired by the novel Sisterhood of Dune, written by Brian Herbert (son of Frank Herbert, author of the original saga) in collaboration with Kevin J. Anderson.

The first season features a talented cast that includes Watson and Williams, Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Mark Strong, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Camilla Beeput, Jihae, Tabu, Charithra Chandran, Jessica Barden, Emma Canning and Yerin Ha.

“This new season allows us to further expand the groundbreaking and epic Dune franchise, which has captivated audiences around the world in every iteration,” said Jason Clodfelter, president of television at Legendary, the production company behind the two Dune films. “We are thrilled to continue our extraordinary partnership with HBO and to support Alison Schapker, her team, and the cast and crew who have worked so passionately to bring the world-class material created by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson to life.”
