Smallville is one of the most iconic and successful series of the 2000s and undoubtedly has the merit of having kept the public's curiosity about Superman alive in years in which the fate of the Man of Steel on the big screen was still shrouded in great uncertainty. The series created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar focuses on the story of the events that formed the young Clark Kent and which will then be the basis of his rise as Superman. It is therefore not surprising that throughout its ten seasons aired between 2001 and 2011, Smallville has given fans a large amount of Easter eggs dedicated to the mythology of the Man of Steel and the entire DC Multiverse.

You can discover the most surprising ones in the list below: Lois Lane's mother: In the eighth episode of Season 10 titled "Abandoned" we see Lois Lane intent on watching an old video of her deceased mother, Ella Lane, who passed away in 1996. Curiously, this is played by Teri Hatcher, who played Lois Lane in the beloved TV series of the 90s Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. Clark Kent's mother is the former Supergirl: In the same episode mentioned above, Clark finally manages to have contact with his real parents, Jor-El and Lara-El, who encourage him and push him to take the path that will lead him to become Superman.

Lara-El is played here by Helen Slater, the same actress who played Supergirl in the 1984 film of the same name. The Batman cowl: In the sixth episode of Season 1 entitled “The Future” many characters cross paths with Cassandra Carver, who can see into the future. When Lex Luthor visits Cassandra she sees a future where Lex becomes President of the United States with a vision of famine and devastation with blood raining from the sky. In the vast field of skulls surrounding Lex, you can see Batman’s cowl, one of the many references to the character present in the series.

The colors of Clark and Lex’s clothes: In each episode of Smallville the two characters follow a precise color pattern. In each episode, Clark is always dressed at least once per episode with various shades of red and blue, the typical colors of Superman’s costume. Lex instead often sports black and purple clothes, while sometimes he also uses green, generally associated with kryptonite. If black prefigures Lex's future villain arc, purple and green are the typical colors of his combat armor. Superboy: Smallville shows us Clark as he takes the first steps of his heroic career when he still does not have access to the iconic costume.

During the series we see Clark sporting a pink leather jacket with the famous S-shaped symbol, the glyph of the House of El, which will become one of the most iconic outfits of the show. This red jacket is a tribute by the creators of the series to Superboy, an identity used by Clark in some comic book cycles before establishing himself as Superman. The Death of Superman: In the first episode of Season 10, "Resurrection", Clark fights against Zod ending up being stabbed by the Kryptonian soldier.

When Lois finds him dying, she pulls out the dagger and holds him tightly in her arms in a shot that recalls one of the most famous panels of the famous comic book arc The Death of Superman, where he succumbs in Lois' arms after emerging victorious from the battle with Doomsday. The Man of Tomorrow: In the eighteenth episode of Season 1, titled "The Queen Bee", Clark decides to run for high school class president. When he runs, he asks Chloe to help him put up flyers around Smallville, which bear the slogan "The Man of Tomorrow", one of Superman's most famous and beloved nicknames.
