The adorable alien 626, better known as Stitch, is about to return! Disney has released the teaser trailer for the live-action version of Lilo & Stitch, coming to theaters next year, which will bring back to the cinema the blue alien creature we met in the 2002 animated classic. The protagonist of the first teaser could only be him: we see him on the beach, intent on destroying sand castles (including one that is reminiscent of the Disney one), in a scene that pays homage to a famous gag from the animated film. For the moment, however, we are not given any look at little Maia Kealoha, who will play Lilo Pelekai, Stitch's little friend on Earth.
Below is the teaser trailer for Lilo & Stitch:
According to the official synopsis, the Disney remake will “tell the story of the bond between a lonely human girl named Lilo and a dog-like alien named Stitch, who has been programmed to be a force of destruction.” Dean Fleischer Camp (Marcel the Shell) will direct, with a screenplay by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich are producing the film, with Ryan Halprin, Tom C. Peitzman, and Louie Provost credited as executive producers.
In addition to Kealoha, the cast also includes Sydney Agudong as her older sister Nani, Kaipo Dudoit as Nani’s boyfriend David Kawena, Zach Galifianakis as Dr. Jumba Jookiba, Stitch’s creator; Billy Magnussen as Officer Pleakley; Tia Carrere as Mrs. Kekoa; Courtney B. Vance as social worker Cobra Bubbles; Amy Hill as David’s grandmother, TÅ«tÅ«; and Jason Scott Lee. Chris Sanders, director of the first film, will return to voice Stitch. The remake will arrive 23 years after the original film, which earned $273 million at the global box office and spawned a franchise with spin-offs, sequels, TV series, and video games, as well as a manga and anime version.
Lilo & Stitch will hit theaters on May 23, 2025.
