If One Piece has been able to maintain the interest of millions and millions of fans around the world for over 25 years, the credit goes also and above all to Eiichiro Oda's ability to disseminate doubts and mysteries about the characters and their secrets here and there. We will probably carry some of them with us until the end, such as what this legendary treasure desired by pirates actually is, while others may have already found an answer thanks to fan theories. Among these, is one of the greatest mysteries of the manga and the record-breaking anime: but who is telling One Piece? Who, in other words, is the narrator of the story?

As fans know, especially in the animated version, the narrator plays a fundamental role, because he is often the one who lets the viewer know some details that would otherwise remain hidden, intriguing the audience by throwing clues here and there about what will happen in the future. For example, when at the end of the Dressrosa arc our Monkey D. Luffy finally becomes one of the four emperors, and his new fleet is said to cause "an accident of historic proportions". The speaker, therefore, has knowledge of future events and is therefore assumed to be telling the whole story after things have already happened.

A detail,, that has convinced fans that the answer to the mystery is really simple and clear for all to see: the narrator of One Piece is none other than Brook. The eighth character to join the Straw Hat Pirates crew is very particular and the characteristics of his Devil Fruit not only make him perfect for this role. First of all, he is the musician of the crew. During the adventures, he proves to be a skilled storyteller, to the point that it is easy to think that he is the singer of the deeds of Monkey D. Luffy and company. Furthermore, the former captain of the Rumbar Pirates is already dead! While he was alive, Brook ate the Paramecia-type Yomi Yomi fruit, which enhances the soul of whoever eats it to the point that the user can come back to life after the first time they die. And so it was, many years before the beginning of the One Piece stories.

Once "returned to life", Brook wandered for many years before meeting Luffy and his, during the Thriller Bark arc. From there, he immediately became fond of the future Pirate King and greatly increased his skills, as well as becoming a world-famous rock star. His status, both professional and "vital", therefore makes him the perfect narrator for the story and so most fans seem to agree. There is also a very emblematic fan art circulating, which portrays Brook while visiting the graves of all the other traveling companions. Is it on that occasion that he begins to tell the story that has enthralled fans all over the world for over 25 years? Another mystery that Oda will have to clarify, sooner or later.
