Apple Original Films announced yesterday that it is developing a sequel to The Family Plan, the family comedy starring Mark Wahlberg. The adventures of the Morgan family will soon return to delight audiences on Apple TV+. The announcement of the sequel's development was made official through a short press release. Mark Wahlberg will return as the lead actor and producer, as will director Simon Cellan Jones. “I am thrilled to reprise my role as Dan Morgan alongside my brilliant co-stars and with Simon and David,”
said producer and star Mark Wahlberg. “Making ‘The Family Plan’ and watching it become an instant hit with audiences worldwide has been incredibly rewarding. We can’t wait to collaborate again with our partners at Apple and Skydance on the next chapter of the Morgan family, in which their European vacation inevitably goes awry.” “I’m thrilled to be returning to accompany the Morgans across Europe in search of the perfect, action-packed family Christmas,” said director Simon Cellan Jones.
David Coggeshall, who wrote the first film, has penned the sequel to “The Family Plan,” which takes place in Europe, where Dan has planned the perfect Christmas vacation for the Morgans, only to find his past haunting them in unexpected ways. The Family Plan 2 (we’re calling it that for now), an Apple Original film from Skydance Media, will be directed by Simon Cellan Jones with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger producing for Skydance, along with Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson through Municipal Pictures. John G. Scotti will executive produce alongside Cellan Jones.
