The world-famous game "Tomb Raider" series is an action-adventure in which treasure hunter Lara Croft embarks on a dangerous adventure. In the live-action film version, Angelina Jolie played the first Lara Croft role, and two "Tomb Raider" films were produced in 2001 and 2003, starring her. In 2018, a new film was made "Tomb Raider: First Mission", starring Alicia Vikander. The live-action TV series was officially announced in May 2024, and the screenwriter and executive producer will be Phoebe Waller-Bridge, known for producing, writing, and starring in the Amazon series "Fleabag" (2016-2019) and co-writing "No Time to Die" (2021).

Turner and Boynton are expected to take screen tests for the role of Lara Croft. The auditions are being conducted in secrecy, and the other candidates have not been revealed. Deadline reports that Waller-Bridge, a top female creator, will be working on a world-famous action heroine, making the role "very attractive for actors in their late 20s and 30s." The TV series will be produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Crystal Dynamics. In addition to Waller-Bridge, executive producers include Jenny Robbins, Dmitri M. Johnson of dj2 Entertainment, Michael Shaile, and rights holders Legendary Television and Crystal Dynamics.

Turner, one of the nominees, got her break as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones and appeared as Jean Grey in X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) and X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019). She most recently starred in the British crime drama Joan and will next appear in the Amazon series Haven. Boynton is known for her roles in films such as Bohemian Rhapsody and Murder on the Orient Express (2017). Most recently, she has starred in the romance film "Greatest Hits" (2024) and the British historical drama "A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story."
