"Twisters," an action-adventure film about the threat of giant tornadoes, is popular. In the United States, it has recorded the fourth-highest opening box office revenue of films released in 2024 (as of now), following "Deadpool & Wolverine," "Inside Out 2," and "Dune: Sand Planet Part 2." Although it is a new chapter of "Twister" (1996), it has achieved exceptional results as a film with an original script. So, will there ever be a sequel to "Twisters," that is, a third film in the "Twister" franchise?
"I don't know, but then we'll have to keep adding "z" to "Twister," said Daisy Edgar-Jones, who plays Kate. In an interview conducted by Yahoo! Entertainment before the film's release in the United States, each of the cast members shared their honest reactions. Glen Powell, who plays Tyler, said, "It all depends on the box office." "This kind of movie depends on the audience. If the audience proves that there is a demand, then we have a great team figuring out how to make the next story."
Katie O'Brien, who plays Dani, a member of Tyler's storm chaser team, has a slightly different view. "I don't think there should be a sequel if it's well made and doesn't need to be," she said, emphasizing, "I think this movie has a proper ending." However, O'Brien agreed with Brandon Perea's idea of a prequel. "What about a prequel? I want to know more about the 'cowboys'. For example, how did Tyler and Boone meet?"
"Twisters" cost $155 million to make, and as of this article, it has grossed $195.58 million in North America and $78.8 million overseas, for a total of $274.38 million worldwide. It's undoubtedly one of the films that will lead the summer season, but what will Universal Pictures and Warner Bros., the producers, think of it? Incidentally, Edgar-Jones also commented on the final scene of the film, "It's great that it feels like there's more to come. Kate and Tyler's story isn't over."
The film "Twisters" is currently in theaters.
