The first three episodes of the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will arrive on Prime Video on August 29. In anticipation of the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, new images reveal details about the Hobbit ancestors, the Stoors, providing an intriguing preview of what lies ahead. These images show the Stoors in the desert lands of Rhûn, a region little explored in the original works of J.R.R. Tolkien, allowing the Amazon Prime Video series to add surprising new dimensions to the story.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power – the changes

The Stoors represent a group of Hobbit ancestors who live in an arid and hostile environment, contrasting with the more traditional image of Hobbits linked to fertile and lush lands. These new characters promise to enrich Tolkien’s universe with their settled culture and commitment to survival, introducing new and deeper elements to the mythology of Middle-earth. Tanya Moodie and Gavi Singh Chera, who play Gundabel and Merimac respectively, offer interesting insights into their characters. Gundabel, the leader of the Stoors, is described as a figure focused on the protection and prosperity of his people.

Merimac, on the other hand, seems to be a character deeply connected to the history and culture of the Stoors, with a sentimental connection to the origins of his people, as indicated by a beautiful sculpture on the set representing the roots of the Stoors and the Harfoots. The decision to set the story of the Stoors in a dry, desert region contrasts with Tolkien’s original descriptions, which placed them in marshes near the River Anduin. This choice could imply a future journey of the Stoors to greener regions, perhaps influenced by the events that Nori and the Stranger will face in Rhûn.
