Filming for Fantastic Four: First Steps began this week and photos from the set are already starting to appear on social media. Now, new images show the retro facade of the RKO Palace cinema in the new Marvel Studios production, showing what we can expect from the retrofuturistic vision of the 1960s, which we will have in the film. Fantastic Four: Everything you need to know about the Marvel reboot
This is one of the most important projects within Marvel Studios. We still don't know much about its story, besides the fact that we won't see the origin of the group. The cast of the Fantastic Four reboot includes Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm (Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm (Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm (The Thing). Ralph Ineson will play the big bad, Galactus.
Julia Garner has been cast as Shalla-Bal, an alternate version of the Silver Surfer, while Paul Walter-Hauser, John Malkovich, and Natasha Lyonne have yet to have their roles revealed. Behind the scenes, the production has already gone through some ups and downs. Jon Watts, director of Tom Holland's Spider-Man trilogy, was in charge but left the film. Now, Matt Shakman, director of WandaVision, is in charge, with young rising screenwriters Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer writing the first story version, and Josh Friedman (Avatar: The Way of Water) rewriting.
Fantastic Four premieres on July 25, 2025. It will kick off Phase 6 of the MCU, which will conclude with Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. The Fantastic Four are the cornerstone of the Marvel universe as we know it. The group's first comic book was published in 1961, as the publisher's response to the Justice League, which was a success at rival DC Comics. The great idea of screenwriter Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, however, was to create a group of vulnerable heroes, with problems that bring them closer to readers.
The original formation of the Fantastic Four is composed of Reed Richards, Ben Grimm, and the siblings Sue Storm and Johnny Storm. The four gain powers after an unauthorized trip to space, in which the ship they are in is hit by a series of cosmic rays for which it was not prepared. As a result, the ship returns to planet Earth, and the four, in addition to surviving the accident, gain superpowers. Reed can stretch his body, Ben gains super strength and rock-like skin, while Sue can become invisible and create force fields. Finally, Johnny can produce flames with his own body. The four become Mr. Fantastic, the Thing, the Invisible Woman, and the Human Torch.
