The second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power promises to bring new thrills for fans of J.R.R. Tolkien. With the return set for August 29 on Prime Video, we will see evil intensify in Middle-earth with the full appearance of Sauron. In the first season, Sauron hid behind the human identity of Halbrand, but now he will return under the deceptive elven disguise of Annatar, the Lord of Hallows.

The Lord of the Rings: who are the Riot Wraiths?

This season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will show Sauron increasing his strength and deploying an array of deadly creatures, including the fearsome Barrow Wraiths. Empire Magazine has revealed the first image of these evil specters, ready to torment the inhabitants of Middle Earth. In Tolkien lore, the Barrow Wraiths were sent by the Witch-king of Angmar to haunt the barrows of Tyrn Gorthad. It will be interesting to see how the series integrates these macabre beings, given that they emerge historically after the formation of the Arnorian Kingdom and the sinking of Numenor.

The first season saw the birth of Mount Doom and the beginning of Sauron's rule in the Southlands. With Adar as leader of the Orcs, Sauron will plot to wage war against the rest of Middle-earth. Showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay teased that season two will focus on the villains. They promised epic battles involving Adar and his orc army, as well as the combined forces of Elves, Men, and Dwarves led by Galadriel, Elrond, and Gil-galad. Payne and McKay stressed that this season will feature ambitious showdowns from which many major characters may not emerge alive.

” But season two is all about the bad guys. This time, Sauron's agenda sets everything in motion: Adar (Sam Hazeldine, replacing Joseph Mawle) and his orc army; Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), Elrond (Robert Aramayo] ) and Gil-galad (Benjamin Walker) and their elven armies – who will all clash together in the most ambitious battle our show has ever seen, a battle from which many great actors they might not make it out alive.”
