Less than two months are left until the release of MaXXXine, the third chapter of Ti West's X trilogy starring Mia Goth. Arriving in cinemas from August 21st with the distribution of Lucky Red and Universal Pictures International Italy, the film will see the return of Goth in the role of Maxine, now looking for fame in 1980s Hollywood. In a recent interview, the actress explained the character and the franchise's impact on her career and what she wants for her future.
Mia Goth reveals that she wants to leave the horror genre and move on to something lighter.
After the first Mia Goth returns to play the sensual Maxine Minx, who, ten years after the bloody events of the first episode, is still trying to chase her dream of becoming an actress in 1980s Hollywood, but the presence of a serial killer in ambush risks revealing his dark past. In an interview with Time, Goth revealed the importance that her X franchise had in her career: “Playing Maxine and Pearl was among the most fulfilling creative experiences of my life. And one of the reasons it's been such a gift is because I've been lucky to have played such fearless and strong characters.”
The actress also revealed her love for horror films that allow her to interpret "roles written for women that are difficult to find in other genres", but at the same time she would like to explore new avenues as an artist "I would like to make a romantic film." Goth in fact underlined how, although she loves horror, she would also like to participate in lighter stories: "I've been so focused on this side, on the spectrum between violence and blood, that I would also love a bit of love."
MaXXXine stars Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Halsey, Lily Collins, Kevin Bacon and Giancarlo Esposito. The film was produced by Ti West, Jacob Jaffke, Harrison Kreiss, and Kevin Turen. The executive producers are Mia Goth, Kid Cudi, Dennis Cummings, Karina Manashil, Peter Phok, and Jeremy Reitz.
